We don't need our government running anything associated with oil and gas.

MahopacJack - "A change in Federal Administration would certainly help prices."
Or maybe prices are high so they can try and put the blame on the current administration.

At this point, @mrbee, please tell me why not have the government pump the oil? Exxon Mobil earns about $40 billion, not per year but per QUARTER. All while charging record prices at pump.
And the irony is that the oil is already owned by us! The federal government just gives it to Big Oil with hardly a royalty paid. What's wrong with just paying the oil drillers a flat fee to drill and pump the oil? The government can pay the refiners a flat fee to refine the oil and then sell the fuel themselves. All proceeds would go to paying off the national debt.
THAT would be the government running things like a business. Of course, Republicans would never go for it. They like the way things are just fine.
And the American people continue to get gouged.

Unreliable public transportation, @jimedB? As if sitting in traffic is so convenient?
The fewer people that take public transportation means that many more cars on the road, getting in your way.

Environmentalists may own cars, @FuelOilOH, but at least they carpool.
And it's probably a hybrid, no less.

Don't count on it, @MahopacJack. Big Oil is cutting very large checks for Romney. You don't think they want something back for all their support?

The difference between Exxon and Apple, @abcdMA, is that Exxon sells a necessity while Apple sells a luxury. Contrary to what Apple buyers believe, you actually CAN live without one of Steve Jobs' inventions.
Now, try commuting 20 miles to work without gasoline. Exxon may have only a 9% profit margin but their domestic market is practically everyone who owns a car.
And while people perhaps buy one Apple product per YEAR, drivers need to get gas every WEEK. Having Exxon hoover money out of your pocket every week tends to make drivers a little cranky.
Meanwhile, people gladly line up to hand over money to Apple.

I blame Rockefeller. It's all his fault. He's still, to this day, the richest man ever to have walked on Earth. Google his mansion.

If Big Oil REALLY wants the American public to think better of them, they can start by lowering gas prices and their profits out of the stratosphere.
Anyone think THAT will happen?

“. . . public relations capabilities geared toward disenfranchising the public about oil and gas exploration.”
Does that make any sense to anyone? I can think of several things that PR can do to the public but disenfranchising is not one of them.

I agree, oil industry needs to reach out by lowering the price of gas to a reasonable amount. That's the only acceptable way.

nd demonization from the administration. Exxon Mobil makes 9% profit, Apple makes 47% profit (and most of Apple is based out of the USA). Which company gets villainized for their profits?

@Bonito: Name one thing the Government runs right, just one! If Obama had control of the Oil Companies we would be paying $15 a gallon tomorrow so that stupid ideas like the super inefficient solar energy would look more attractive and we would be in the same trouble as Spain after it went green and wasted $440 Billion Dollars, can you imagine how many Trillions that would be for America. For every single GREEN job Spain created they lost 9 regular jobs, it decimated their economy! Spain used to be the place to get special and high tech metal work done, they were artisans! Their metal industry is in ruins because they had to fire 3/4 quarters of the employees to stay open and be able to pay their outrageous energy bills caused by going GREEN. Going GREEN when it is forced has the same affect as becoming Socialist, the country falls apart as jobs go away, taxes increase, and misery follows.
We have over 250 years of Oil in America, Canada, and Mexico at 2007 use levels! We don't need to get off oil, we simply need to stop importing it and the Arabs would be begging us to take it at $25 a barrel because that is the only industry they have other then sand! Obama is an idiot pandering to them, he should just tell them we are drilling everywhere if they don't drop the price, we will ban their imports if they don't! We are acting as if we are powerless when actually we are the ones with ALL the power. Between Canada, America, and Mexico, we have most of the worlds oil. UAE will be out of oil in 18 years at todays rates and Saudi Arabia in 27, so we need to get on the stick anyway, might as well do it now!
The liberal Union teachers feed this Eco-Dribble to our children and by the time they can think for themselves its to late, "Oil is bad" when it is anything but bad. I was eating Sushi the other night and some middle aged libtards had finally got around to breeding and had a 7 year old with them at 10PM at night and the Wife asked for bottled water and the daughter went nuts about the environment for 20 minutes and how her teacher told her this and that, pure Lies all designed to pull at kids heartstrings so it doesn't matter if its true or not, just put the false idea in front of them with an animal to associate it with and the little sponges will soak up the Lies, believe, and then pass them on!

Those who hate oil will not be happy until they drive the oil companies to extinction and us back to relying on unreliable public transportation.
