The laid off worker should have tried to disable a few Toyotas so they can't endanger anyone.

Now we know that auto dealerships can put in a GPS system which allows them to disable the cars and sound the alarm in cars they sell. Do the customers know this when they get a car from this dealerships? Setting the bail of the Laid off employee at only $3,000. The bail should be higher and he should be required to pay all the victims towing bills, pay lost from, and any other amount the jury determines.

myvue08 and fordmexico: Chill out. This Huffington Post article is better and has a bit more info. i.e. It is not the same article!

"The Texas Auto Center dealership in Austin installs GPS devices that can prevent cars from starting. The system is used to repossess cars when buyers are overdue on payments, said Jeremy Norton, a controller at the dealership where Ramos-Lopez worked."

I wonder if this sleazy mega used car dealer gave its customers informed consent forms for this "repo gps system". Did any ignitions deactivate while the vehicles were being driven. Great grounds for a mega lawsuit!

This was a really cool handed x employee who really took it to them. The more electronics you have the easier it is to sabotage the unit.

Only a $3000 bond for disabling 100 cars? That's $30 a car.

It's going to cost a lot more than $30 a car to resolve this problem.

The guy who did it is 20 years old. I would figure that by that age you'd be over doing juvenile pranks.
