If the emerging countries (China & India) want more oil, I say let them have it. We should switch over to CNG now.

I only hope the era of the Big Oil and Big Coal robber barons would end. It is time for more ethics amongst executives in the entire Energy industry. Those in the USA should lead the way rather than drag it down further.

We should pursue wind and solar, but not at the expense of bankrupting the country. Let the free economy develop the technology and it will work. If the government continues to try and force the issue, it will never work.

Probably the same fear-mongers that told us global warming would melt the polar ice and flood the coastal cities by 2010.

Not in my lifetime. By the way, the Greeks had plenty of trees surrounding Athens until they woke one day to find the Athenian hill barren.

The increasing cost of gas will be a stimulus for alternative energy sources to be developed, as it is doing now. There is time to do that, why the rush to do it immediately at any cost?

hundreds of years supply left - history only repeats (see whale oil - they thought they had hundreds of years left) - why do we want to support the terrorists in any way mean or form - let them drink their oil - get the USA on fuel that we can produce nationally and no longer be dependant on Dubai based corporations who are not benefiting our economy and threatening our lives.

It is getting nearer every day, however, it will be around for years to come. It will take a couple of generations before alternative fuel sources take precedence.

breaking news, the sun is destined to burn up all it's fuel and in the future will "go out", Americans are warned to stockpile heat and light in preparation.

Obviously the answer is no...but the real question is have we reached the peak of production and are we now on the downward slope of production...this is where the discussion is and there is no agreement yet.

Oil will always be there, at least in my lifetime, but natural gas could be used more than oil in the next 5 to 10 years.

This article is garbage. "Oil", and all things related to it will never end. Ethanol, algea, bio-diesels are coming into the market, but as man-made replacements for old-fashioned oil.
Oil will still be used to lubricate, preserve, etc. even if we're not burning it.

This is a propaganda article for the so-called "green" industry. I hope it's in the opinion section and not the news section of the paper.

this article is a complete lie.. there is a single oil shale deposit under wyoming and utah that if only 50% recoverable is more oil than all the proven reserves in the world today. its like reporters do not actually know facts nowadays...

The Kansas City Star -- WASHINGTON -- After nearly a decade of warnings that the world's oil supply was running out, Americans now are hearing about technology breakthroughs that can unlock vast U.S. deposits of natural gas, help reverse a 40-year slide in domestic oil production and perhaps transform America into the next Middle East.
There seem to be something wrong with that statement, according to USGA we have known reserve oil enough to last the United States for four thousand years. Do you think anyone here now will care.. It all has to be scare tactics to get people brain washed to accept high gas price or go to some other energy source so that the politicians can make their money on investments..
