Ford debuts new Police Interceptor

Detroit News -- Ford Motor Co. will unveil the new Ford Police Interceptor today -- the replacement for the venerable Crown Victoria that has been the backbone of the nation's law enforcement fleets since the early 1990s.

As The Detroit News first reported last year, the new model will be based on the same platform as the new Ford Taurus. However, it will be built for law enforcement work and incorporate several modifications to meet the needs of police officers

Give us a better chance to run? Just a thought. I see a lot of Dodge's on the highway being used as patrol cars. They are underbidding Ford but you have to wonder how they will hold up over all and about trade-in.

That would help traffic enforcement." I once had an SVO Mustang with a 2.4L turbocharged engine that would easily outrun any Ford Crown Vic police car. With the current state of the art in engine controls, fuel injection and turbocharging a 4 cylinder engine would work in many cases. Also, not every police car needs to be "Indy qualified". The issue with 4 cylinder engines would be durability.

Like those warning devices that let people who can afford them know when a police car is near. Crooks go to all lengths to be crooked.

I vastly prefer driving rear wheel drive vehicles. I would consider buying a Crown Vic as my next car.

Its not easy to ram another vehicle in a smart car. I am sure they have driven other cars in the last 20 years. Maybe thier own car? Regardless, I think the crown vic has obviously been a good choice for them or they would have switched before now. Most cops I know, want to be safe and be able to do what is asked of them.
