I looked up nitinol and it’s fascinating with it’s memory to regain shape in the presence of heat. My mountain bike is a GT Avalanche 1.0 with an aluminum frame and it gets strength from an extra triangle below the seat and the shape of the tubes. It has a shock fork also but my touring bike a Kona Sutra that has a chromoly frame and it needs it because I put 70 pounds of gear on it. My aluminum rear rim cracked around the spoke holes because it was cheap and over tensioned so I just taught myself wheel building and am riding on my first set now. I’m using a deep V rim for strength and 2.3x2.0 mm stainless spokes with cartridge bearing hubs. My front hub is a dynamo that powers my lights and charges my phone by day along with some solar chargers of course. I had a 3 speed Monkey Wards bike when I was a kid and now the old planetary gear hubs are coming back. A company Rohloff makes one with 14 gears and a belt drive.

The last time I went into a pub was there in 1986, the year of the last visit of Halley's Comet which I couldn't go out and see because I broke my leg skiing. It was also a mistake because I didn't know it was a gay bar and when a guy tried to pick up on me I was a bit embarrassed because... long long story!!! My friend is a retired manufacturing engineer and he was telling me about the new mairageing steels that are lighter and stronger then chromoly. I was interested in titanium but he say's you have to make it so much bigger for strength that you lose the benefits.

Just stock on hyper enough already. You don't need a charging station. I'm thinking about learning TIG too build my own bicycle frames. I lived near Jack London Square across Lake Merit back in the 80's and I still take classes at Laney College from time to time.

I might be getting a plug-in myself but my Honda Civic VX averages 46 mpg in mixed driving and is good for now. I think there might be a credit for installing a charging station if you need one.

Thanks new buddy. I've been installing solar panels here in East Contra Costa County for 4 years. Some day they will be cheap enough for me to afford but my combined bill is only $45-$50 a month. I turned off my furnace and AC back in 2008 too save money and it's not so bad in a well insulated house here. I have a wood fire occasionally and turn off the extra lights.

Hi jimmy: Your right about putting solar on roofs instead and that's where the feds should be putting their loot.

Arkansas is one state I haven't been to but I want to meet Betty, who lives in Little Rock, the wife of my Gas Buddy friend olefin who died recently. He was 78 years old and could fix your car better than you could. There is a memorial thread for him.

I guess I am. Say we had lunch at the Armenian Market and Bakery in Watertown across from the Arsenal mall. We go there for the chicken kabab and baklava. And to recover from a shopping trip at Target :)
