ps.. noted that gasoline prices are starting to push upward again into the grey area of "comfort" to "uncomfortable'.. if only one could simply change their 'light bulb" from a gas guzzling V-8 to a hybrid as easily as turning out a T-8 bulb!!

thanks jeff... the big issue is whether to yank the ballasts or not... if I buy lamps that use the ballast, and the ballast goes bad.. then I have to buy a ballast.. if I excise the ballasts for LED's that don't use it... I rewire the fixtures for the new luminaries and I need not ever buy a ballast again... I like option 2... the outfit I usually buy from had spme great direct wire bulbs available.. but they completely sold out.. they were like $12 a piece by ETI.. I waited too long.. just like the $42 Tesla beach towel.. if you have to think $42 bucks for a beach towel.. are they nuts?? oops.. too late SOLD OUT... same here... although these bulbs were from of course.. china... I may get Cree bulbs for the last of the CFL change outs...

Hey Jeff.. yes .. checked out those bulbs... thanks for the qwik links.. still decing which approach I will use for my 20 or so 4 footers.. happy to report our methane use under 320 therms for the entire season.. about $472 for the entire winter.. with about $46 of that in unavoidable monthly service fees... not many in these parts finished this past winter with under a $500 heating bill...our electric use was only up slightly thanks to LED holiday lighting.. and just like you all, we're going bulb by bulb to get rid of CFLs and incandescents.. it makes perfect sense.. best Joe

Jeffster! A change of pace and something that I thought perhaps you and others here might enjoy seeing as we take over: Happy Earth Day as well! While I'm at it and if you get a chance, here's my page on Google+: I'm finding it much easier to let people know via G+ that prices are going to be going up. I can send it out to more of them at once and that saves me time that I wouldn't otherwise have and I can get it sent out to most of you who might just fill up ahead of time. I wrote here on the 14th that it was going to be going up again:

Ps.. we recently passed the 36,000 kWh mark with our solar pv system.. at Nj's 18 cents per kWh that is a whooping amount of money not spent on an intangible. . .our total methane use for this winter was 36,000 cu. ft. with my thermostat cranked 74* 24/7 the entire winter..if you use methane, you'll understand what a low consumption that is for a darn cold winter.. about $450 for the winter.. very satisfied with the len ox heat pump HE gas combo

Jeff..I like the sound of that LED change out.. zIm looking at replacements for T8 fluorescent tubes.. 16-18 watts verses 40 per tube..about $17 each. gotta remove the ballasts but those things are from the 50s.. know anybody wants a used ballast? Did you track your old wattage vs your end result with the leds? I cut my holiday lights by over 1300 watts this year.. @4 hrs a night min. for 45 nights.. that adds up.. Im slowly changing out all my cfls as well.. those matrix movies are 25 years old.. that lady was a young babe then.. I think she's the chick they're going to have in the new bond movie.. best joe
